my story
When I was in Junior High – I think grade 7 – I sold my first piece of art. It was on display in the hall of the school and a visiting police officer saw it and decided he just had to have it. Admittedly, I was a bit terrified being called to the office that day to find a police officer waiting for me, but soon my terror turned into happiness, pride, and inspiration. With a new fortune in my pocket ($200 I think), I realized that this thing that I loved so much, making art, could actually be a career.
It was in university, when I was getting my Bachelor of Design degree, that I learned how much design truly is about people. The success of a design solution starts with the people you're designing for — their goals, their journeys, their perceptions, who they are, what they value — and the more you understand them and the problem being solved, the better your solutions will be, AND there’s a process for this whole thing! It was then that my passion for graphic design firmly took hold and I spent the rest of my degree at the edge of my seat, soaking it up like a sponge.
Since graduating university in 2014, I’ve completed thousands of design projects working both as an independent freelancer and collaboratively within a creative team. I’ve developed over twenty different visual identities, helping clients effectively tell their brand stories and shape perception in the minds of their audiences. My work has played a significant role in connecting at-risk groups with support, and architects with innovative new green technology. Good design is powerful stuff, and I’ve found deep fulfillment in using it to help my clients succeed and their audiences benefit.
